Burney

Nestled at the base of Burney Mountain, the community of Burney is your gateway to the Intermountain Area.  Long known for its variety of outdoor, seasonal recreational activities, this special part of California attracts people from all over the country.  The pristine surroundings, clean air and water, and comfortable temperatures, provide an ideal location for the outdoor enthusiast.  It’s been said that Burney is best described as ‘beautiful and friendly’, and we couldn’t agree more!

Burney is a large town that offers most everything you need to live and work.  From health and dental services to multiple banks, to retail stores, both big and small, Burney is a tight-knit community of lovely neighborhoods all within close proximity to Main Street, where most businesses are located.  The town is fortunate to have a library, movie theatre, travel agency, dry cleaners and community swimming pool.  The Intermountain Community Center offers a preschool program and daycare facilities.  For those visiting the area, Burney offers a variety of wonderful restaurants from steakhouse to Mexican food to pizza.  Lodging is plentiful with many nice, quiet hotels, to vacation rentals, and camping of course.

Surrounded by timber, logging is one of Burney’s main industries, as is hydro-electric power production.  With its relatively close proximity to Redding, Burney offers a nice alternative to those who need to work in the city but like to live in the mountains.  The median price of homes in Burney is approximately $115,000 to $180,000 with custom homes in certain neighborhoods priced upwards of $250,000.

One of the most treasured sights in the Burney area includes Burney Falls, which Teddy Roosevelt famously called, “The eighth wonder of the world”.  The beautiful McArthur-Burney Falls State Park has 910 acres of forest and five miles of stream-side and lake shoreline, including a portion of Lake Britton.  The park’s main focus of course, is the 129-foot Burney Falls, considered to be one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the state.The Burney Falls campground has recently been renovated to accommodate larger RV’s and has all new bathrooms.  Lake Britton is a favorite among families, offering easy access to a sandy beach for fun in the water and sun.

Beautiful Burney and surrounding area offers year round fishing, including world-class trout fishing, fly-fishing, stream, river and lake fishing.  Locations to fish include the Hat Creek Wild Trout Stream, Pit River Wild Trout section, Lake Britton, Baum Lake at Cassel, McArthur-Burney Falls State Park and many other locations.  People travel to the Burney valley from all over the country to enjoy some of the best fishing and fly-fishing of rainbow and brown trout they’ve ever had!
